ROYGBIV has always been a clever way to remember the colors in the rainbow and color wheel. Well I actually had the opportunity to spend a few fun days in ROYGBIV! Not possible you say…wrong you are!
ROYGBIV truly exists as a town in New Jersey….Cape May, New Jersey. Cape May is an absolutely lovely Victorian seaside resort town that became popular in the mid 18th century and is BEYOND charming and colorful!
If it’s not on your list it is a must add. The town is not just a summer town, it is beautiful place to visit in the fall and during the holidays.
somewhere is the rainbow,
I have my muumuu, some stylish protective eyewear and a 99% (ish) viewing location…sounds like a great day to get my eclipse on!
* Bonus Track…not only was it a magical experience this afternoon but the magic continued hours later as I reviewed all of the random photos on my phone from the day…
Happy Eclipse Day!
Day Three…Frankfort, KY to College Hill, OH ( and then back to ATL)
Bring on the day…
Today was a first….we made it to Ohio! What will 2018 bring? Michigan perhaps?
Although I absolutely love the treasure hunting, the scenic road trip and of course the pancake dinners at Cracker Barrel what I love, love, love the most are the amazing, kind and interesting people I meet along the way. This year we ended the trip in College Hill, Ohio and met such a wonderful, spirited, joyful group of people from Serve NCH doing great things not only for their immediate community but also the greater community by collecting medicine bottle for Doctors Without Borders. Good vibes…
Only 353 days until next year…Whose in?
And the epic adventure continues…
Day Two…Crossville, TN to Frankfort, KY
First stop of the day was a good one…
I Love Love!
An all time favorite stop…what will a girl find?
Glassware is what a girl will find…
Check in tomorrow for the third and final day of the 2017 127 Adventure.
Can you believe it…it’s that time of year again. The days are long, the weather is warm and the 127 is on!
If you aren’t familiar with what the 127 is I will quickly get you up to speed…it is the World’s Longest Yard Sale! Yes you heard it right…it is held the first week of August , it’s on rural route 127, it runs from Alabama through Michigan and it’s 690 miles long!
Whenever I share my enthusiasm of this epic adventure I get one of the following two responses…Oh wow that sounds AMAZING, what’s it like? or eww! I get more wows that ewws but I get it, treasure hunting isn’t for everyone! So for those who are curious instead of a photo recap of this year’s trip I decided to do my 127 Show & Tell video style…
One rental mini van, three days, four states and 961 miles and this is how it went down…
Day One…Signal Mountain, TN to Crossville, TN
Check out tomorrow for day two’s clips from the road!
One was new to me and one was a repeat read but both were fantastic and I highly recommend both.
Travel, adventure and connecting with people is part of my DNA so it’s no surprise that my first round of reads this summer had to do with getting out there, exploring and meeting people from all over the country.
Although Travels with Charley was written in 1961 and South and West was from Joan Didion’s notebooks from 1970 what really struck a chord with me was how a great deal of the topics, issues, concerns and observations from the early 60’s and 70’s are similar to the topics, issues, concerns and observations of modern-day.
What is for sure different now than back in the 60’s/70’s was the actual book itself! Back in the day a book was a book…paper that was bound with a spine and with pages that could be dog eared to a indicate your stopping point. Now you can listen to a book, read a book on a computer, tablet or phone but I prefer the old school method…the real deal paper book!
So now let me share with you something I am crazy in love with which is the Little Free Library…a worldwide non-profit program the inspires the love of reading and community with a “take a book return a book exchange”. There are over 50,000 Little Free Libraries around the world in 70 countries from parks to front yards.
Today was my first time using the library which was pretty awesome. All I had to do was to go to the map to find my local library and too my surprise there were several within 5 miles of my home. So I got my book, wrote a message inside and asked future readers to do the same and then hopped into my car to find this purple Little Free Library which I found in a neighbors front yard…magical!

inspiration everyday * everyday inspiration
Often the question comes up of how and where do I get inspired from a design perspective…
For me it’s simply that I get out there with me eyes wide open no matter where I am with ferocious curiosity. I look up, look down, open doors, ask questions and go into corner’s (you never know what you might miss otherwise) of wherever my adventure might take me. Those adventures are sometimes a hike out in the wonderful world of Mother Nature, exploring a city and all it has to offer, rummaging through a flea market or in this case an amazing visit to Palm Springs.
Palm Springs for me was an EPIC ULTRA hotbed for all things design and inspiration…here is my Show & Tell.
Mirror mirror on the wall…oops I mean mirror mirror on the entire house inside and out. True fact and not a typo!
Art is alive in the desert and man do I love art that invites you to participate in all its glory and splendor. Entering this reflective ranch was as if I was dropped into a gigantic kaleidoscope…magical!
This architectural installation, Mirage, by Doug Aitken was part of the Desert X Exhibition and will remains until October 31st, 2017. A for sure must see if you find yourself anywhere near the Palm Springs area.
Check out the below link for more about Mirage.
So there…April showers totally delivered on May flowers in more ways than one!!!
Not only did these happy California poppies come out and play so did this fantastic vintage Lilly Pulitzer floral frock.
These are the patterns and prints that didn’t come home with me from Brimfield but still inspired me. Shocking, I know but even this more is more girl couldn’t bring home anymore!
As they famously say a picture says a thousand words, so here are 9,000 words.
So much pattern…so much inspiration…so much to share…so here goes!
